Conference call with Women's Professional Soccer
Friday, July 9, 2010: Cosmos Sports
President, Cary Kaplan, recently held a conference call
with every team in the Women’s Professional Soccer
League (WPS) and league officials to discuss ideas for
the WPS to maximize group sales for the remainder of the
2010 WPS season.
The WPS is the highest-level women’s professional soccer
league in North America and was formed in 2007 with play
beginning in March 2009. Now, the league consists of
seven teams across the United States: the Atlanta Beat,
Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, FC Gold Pride,
Philadelphia Independence, Sky Blue FC and Washington
Freedom.
During the call, Cary offered many suggestions to
problems regarding the league’s revenue generation,
focusing in on ticket sales, promotions, marketing, and
sponsorships. First, he listened to what programs worked
for the teams in the past and then offered ideas on how
to make them more effective. Some of his ideas
incorporated the tactics such as: increasing group sales
through player and community involvement with charities,
special events, fundraising and more.
The teams were extremely pleased with what they had
learned in just an hour-long conversation. Each team
took away many of Cary’s ideas from the call and planned
on implementing them in the near future. Here are two of
the many testimonials that Cosmos received from the
league:
"Thanks for the time and loads of great
information."
Scott Foster, Director of Sales, Atlanta
Beat
"I thought the call was great. It served as a good
refresher of what we need to do more of going forward."
Mike Millich, Senior Director of
Sales, Sky Blue Soccer
The Women’s Professional Soccer League has taken
advantage of Cary’s years of experience in the sports
industry as former Canadian Soccer League Commissioner
and president of the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL), who along
with his Cosmos Sports teammates have now trained over
300 teams from over 20 different professional sports
leagues.
