Rush Reboot: Toronto Rush Reload for a Resurgent 2025 Season

By David Dasilva | February 5, 2025

The Toronto Rush, a cornerstone franchise of the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA), is embarking on a transformative journey in 2025 as the team “reboots”. This initiative aims to revitalize the team’s performance, re-engage its passionate fan base, and reestablish the Rush as a dominant force in the UFA.This change comes after a franchise-worst 1-11 record in 2024, missing the UFA playoffs for a fourth straight year.

The Rush Sign Top European Talents

In a bold move to strengthen their lineup, the Rush have secured contracts with three of Europe’s top players: Toms Abeltins and Arvids Karklins from Latvia, and Tom Blasman from the Netherlands. The three stars, who played together for the top Belgian team “Mooncatchers” in 2024, are poised to give the Rush a much needed boost to the teams competitiveness as they look to end their four year playoff drought.

Bringing Back a Legend

Further solidifying their roster, the Rush have announced the return of Mark Lloyd, an original member and arguably the greatest talent in the team’s history who led the Rush to a 86-13 record during his first tenure with the team from 2013-2018. Lloyd, who hasn’t played in a UFA game since 2018, says that he has never stopped training and is arguably stronger today than he was 10 years ago. Although he is older, Lloyd claims he can still think the game to the highest level.

Looking Ahead

With a retooled roster, the Toronto Rush are possibly the most interesting team heading into the 2025 season and have positioned themselves for a triumphant return to the top of the UFA. The 2025 season promises to be an exciting chapter in the franchise’s storied history.
