Memorial Cup 2025: Why Now Is the Time to Own a CHL Team

By the Cosmos Franchise Sales Team | May 29, 2025

As the 2025 Memorial Cup heads into its final stages, junior hockey is once again taking centre stage in Canadian sport—and offering a timely reminder of the value and visibility of CHL team ownership.

Hosted in Rimouski, Québec, the Memorial Cup brings together the champions of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Western Hockey League (WHL), and Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), along with the host city club, for a week of high-stakes, nationally televised competition. The tournament is more than a championship—it’s a showcase of the best that Canadian junior hockey has to offer, both on the ice and as a business.

Medicine Hat Books Final Spot; London to Face Moncton in Semi-Final

The WHL champion Medicine Hat Tigers have secured their spot in the 2025 Memorial Cup final after a commanding 3–1 win over the London Knights on Tuesday night. It’s the Tigers’ first appearance in the championship game since 2007 and the first time a WHL team has gone undefeated in round-robin play since 2008.

Goaltender Harrison Meneghin (Tampa Bay Lightning prospect) made 35 saves in a standout performance, while Ethan Neutens, Mathew Ward, and Ryder Ritchie found the back of the net for the Tigers. Ritchie now leads the tournament in goals.

The London Knights will now face the Moncton Wildcats in Friday’s semi-final, after Moncton advanced with a 6–2 victory over Rimouski in Wednesday night’s tiebreaker. Gabe Smith (Utah), Julius Sumpf, Juraj Pekarcik (St. Louis), Etienne Morin (Calgary), and Alex Mercier all scored for Moncton, who broke open a 3–2 game with three unanswered goals in the third period. Mathis Rousseau stopped 32 shots in net.

The semi-final rematch will be one to watch—London narrowly edged Moncton 3–2 in overtime during the round-robin.

The Memorial Cup Final is scheduled for Sunday, June 1 at 7:00 p.m. ET.

Owning a CHL Team: An Opportunity Beyond the Ice

The Memorial Cup isn’t just a celebration of Canadian junior hockey—it’s a national spotlight on the depth, business value, and cultural significance of teams in the Canadian Hockey League. With sold-out crowds, national television coverage, and future NHLers on the ice, the value of CHL franchises has never been more apparent.

These aren’t just teams—they’re institutions within their communities. And for investors, sports professionals, or passionate hockey minds, ownership in the CHL represents a unique opportunity to build something meaningful.
