Allan Cup Hockey League Continues to Grow, Eyes 6th Franchise

By David Dasilva | July 3, 2025

The Allan Cup Hockey League (ACH) is entering an exciting new chapter. With the recent additions of the Cambridge Hornets and St. Catharines Saints, the league has expanded to five teams, building momentum as senior AAA hockey continues to thrive in Ontario.

The return of the Cambridge Hornets for the 2025-26 season marks the revival of one of the most iconic brands in Canadian senior hockey. After years away from the ACH, the Hornets bring with them a proud tradition, a passionate fan base, and a deep-rooted hockey culture that will instantly elevate competition across the league.

Joining Cambridge in the league’s latest wave of growth are the St. Catharines Saints, who will bring top-tier senior hockey back to the Garden City. With strong community backing and a vibrant hockey scene in Niagara, the Saints are poised to make an immediate impact both on and off the ice.

“There’s tremendous excitement around the league right now,” said ACH Commissioner Rich Richardson. “Adding two respected hockey markets like Cambridge and St. Catharines strengthens our footprint and showcases the ongoing appetite for elite senior hockey in Ontario.”

The league now features five competitive franchises, each committed to preserving the tradition of the Allan Cup while delivering high-caliber hockey to passionate local markets. The growth also highlights the ACH’s stability, leadership, and vision for long-term sustainability.

As the 2025-26 season approaches, league officials remain open to additional expansion. Conversations have already begun with several communities who see the value in bringing Allan Cup Hockey to their cities. With strong local ownership, engaged fan bases, and a league model built on community and tradition, the ACH presents a unique and exciting opportunity for potential new franchises.

“With the additions of two historic franchises in St Catharines and Cambridge, the Allan Cup league is in the midst of a historic surge for senior hockey in Southern Ontario.   We are excited for the league to continue its rapid expansion and to honour the longest running hockey championship in Canada.   Now the Cosmos task turns for finding the right owner and right market for the 6th ACHL team”  Said Cosmos Sports president, Cary Kaplan

For those passionate about growing the game and bringing elite-level senior hockey to their community, the Allan Cup Hockey League offers a proven pathway. The recent success of the Cambridge Hornets and St. Catharines Saints shows what is possible when tradition, community, and competitive hockey come together.
