The Toronto Rush entered the 2026 Ultimate Frisbee Association season looking to establish a new direction. After finishing 3-9 in 2025, the organization shifted its recruitment strategy toward young Canadian talent, stronger roster continuity and players who could grow together over multiple seasons. That approach resulted in a clear improvement on the field.
Toronto finished the 2026 regular season with a 6-6 record, doubling its win total from the previous year. The Rush also increased their scoring average from 19.6 points per game in 2025 to 21.4 this season, while reducing their opponents’ average from 21.1 to 19.2.
Much of Toronto’s progress came from the energy provided by its new and younger players.
Max Pettenuzzo and Justin Podnar were among the most exciting additions to the Rush roster. Both arrived with experience representing Canada and competing in high-level university ultimate. Pettenuzzo brought speed, athleticism and the ability to make difficult plays, while Podnar added another dependable option on both sides of the frisbee.
The pair had previously competed against each other while attending the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia, respectively. In Toronto, they became important pieces of a promising young core.
Other newcomers also contributed throughout the season. Eric Zhuang made an immediate impression during opening weekend by recording five blocks and a layout goal in Toronto’s 24-17 victory over Philadelphia. Zhuang’s 18 blocks on the season also tied for third in the league. Gagan Chatha, Evan Bembenista and several other additions provided the Rush with greater athleticism and depth than the team displayed one year earlier.
Cosmos Sports & Entertainment was proud to continue supporting the Toronto Rush throughout the 2026 season.
Behind the scenes, the Cosmos team helped strengthen the organization’s marketing, digital content and fan engagement efforts. This included producing and sharing social media content, promoting home games, highlighting players and creating behind-the-scenes coverage that gave supporters a closer look at the team.
Cosmos also assisted with ticket sales and promotional campaigns designed to increase awareness of the Rush and bring more fans to Varsity Stadium. These efforts contributed to several strong home crowds, including a season-high attendance of 895 fans for School Night on May 29.
From game-day content and community-focused promotions to digital storytelling and event support, the partnership helped showcase both the players on the field and the people working behind the scenes.
The 2026 campaign was an encouraging season for the Toronto Rush. With a developing young core, a stronger on-field product and continued support from Cosmos, the organization has plenty of momentum to build on heading into 2027.
